George Trainor

George was born on July 8, 1939 and raised in Charlottetown by his parents Flo and Alfred Trainor. George was the oldest of three brothers, Reggie (Eleanor) Trainor & Harold Trainor.

George earned his Bachelor of Science at St. Dunstan's University and his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree at Nova Scotia Technical College. The majority of his career was spent working at the Department of Transportation & Public Works retiring in February 2001. George was elected city councillor of Ward 9 November of 2000.

George was a member of the Parkdale-Sherwood Lions Club, the P.E.I. Hockey Assoc., former manager of the Sherwood-Parkdale Metros, president of the Ch'town Curling Club and chairman of the U.P.E.I. men hockey booster club, Manager of the Canada Games hockey team, 1991 and 1995, member of the PEI horsemen's association and a member of the National Guide to Sustainable Municipal Infrastructure.

George loved most sports and could usually be found at the CDP, the hockey rink or the golf course. George became just the 3rd Islander and the 6th Atlantic Canadian to be honoured by Hockey Canada with the prestigious Order of Merit in 1999. His name is placed on an Honour Roll in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

Most important to George was his family. Kathleen (Kaye), and children, Brad, Derek (Jennifer) & Melissa (Jeff). His grandchildren, Brittanie and Allaura Trainor. George & Kaye were married in Charlottetown on August 8, 1964. They spent most of their married lives in Sherwood raising their children and making lifelong friends.

For those who had the privilege of calling George a friend, they remember him for his kind and generous heart, his smile, his sense of humor, his love for the Irish, looking for his 50/50 tickets and of course his laugh.
